NOKL Manual
Applies to both NOKL for Windows and NOKL for Mac unless noted otherwise.
Introduction
What is NOKL?
NOKL is a program that:
- Mounts folders remotely, as if they were local disks.
- Allows Sharing your Folders with other users, where recipients are authenticated by NOKL.
- Provides Public Links to files on your devices, whereby browser client does not have to be authenticated.
- Remotely controls (Remote Desktop) your computers using RDC and VNC protocols.
- Provides other proxying byte tunnels (Nokl client provides browsing that looks like it was origninate from Nokl Server).
Program Options
General
This tab provides access to the general NOKL options.
Language (restart required)
This option allows selecting a preferred language from the dropdown menu on the right.
Start Nokl when Windows starts
If checked, NOKL will start when Windows or MacOS starts.
If unchecked, you have to start NOKL by yourself, after OS is restarted.
Add NOKL Shortcut to desktop
If checked, add Nokl shortcut to Desktop.
If unchecked, remove Nokl shortcut from Desktop.
Hide to System Tray when Main Window is closed (unchecked by default, Windows only)
If checked, NOKL will run in the background when closed.
If unchecked, NOKL will unload from memory when closed.
Mounter
Mounter options.
Mount Network Drive Letter inside the Server
If checked, Nokl Server will show list list of SMB servers visible on this Server and you can mount them.
If unchecked, only disks local to Nokl Server will be shown on this server.
Show Offline Devices
If checked, then show Servers that were Online but then went Offline.
If unchecked, then show only Online servers.
Disable Cache
If checked, then disable Disk cache of Mounted drives.
If unchecked, then enable Disk cache of Mounted drives.
Cache Folder
Local Folder where Cache is stored.
Cache Size
Local Cache max allowed size in Mbytes.
Proxy Options
Do not use Proxy
Use direct connections, without a proxy.
Use Proxy server used by Internet Explorer for remote connections (default)
If this option is selected, Nokl will use the same proxy server as the one that Internet Explorer and WinInet use.
Use this Proxy server for remote connections
If this option is selected, use the proxy server specified in the fields below. After checking this box, the Proxy Server and Port can be entered.
Proxy UserID and Password
If these fields are not empty, use these credentials as UserID and Password for the proxy specified.
If these fields are empty and a specified proxy server will be used, provide the User ID and Password for the proxy.
Use the "Test" button to ensure the proxy is set up correctly.
Trust System Root Certification Authorities (checked by default)
If checked, allow third-party programs to listen in on Nokl communications over TLS if they add their certificate to the system storage.
Logs
Level of log detail (Actions by default)
Set the level of detail for the logs shown in the Log Window. Logs saved to files always have the highest level of detail.
Possible levels: 0 - Critical, 1 - Errors, 2 - Actions, 3 - Details.
Retain logs for this many days (15 by default)
Keep the Job and Global Logs for this many days. Delete older Global Log files.
Store logs in folder
Allows to specify a custom folder to store Nokl logs. If empty, store logs in a Nokl folder in the user application profile folder.
Server
This tab controls the local Nokl Server settings.
Enable Sharing from this computer / Serve files to other devices
Based on this setting, Nokl will act on this computer either as a server or a client.
If checked, Nokl installed on this computer can accept incoming requests, i.e., it will act as a Server.
Data located on the computer may be accessed through Nokl Client from other devices with Nokl installed.
If unchecked, Nokl installed on this computer can make outgoing requests only and cannot accept incoming requests, i.e., it will act as a Client.
Server logs
Level of log detail
Set the level of detail for the server logs.
Possible levels: 0 - Critical, 1 - Errors, 2 - Actions, 3 - Details, 4 - Transaction, 5 - Debug.
Retain logs for this many days (15 by default)
Keep the server logs for this many days. Delete older log files.
